I have been coming up to Rex Tolton’s Miles Bay Camp since I was twelve years old (26 years ago, hoping my math is off but instead realizing I’m getting older).  Every year has been a blast.  Matt and Jen are always hospitable with us and cater to our needs, including my dad’s constant mechanical and electrical breakdowns which result in his emotional breakdowns until Matt swoops in with his handy toolbox and fixes things up and sends us on our way.

Although for me fishing is second to the comradery that I enjoy with friends and family, the fishing is always fantastic and is truly the icing on the cake for the trip.  I caught my largest walleye this year (May 2015) and my dad had his best northern and smallmouth fishing ever since he started coming to this trip (40 years now and counting).

I highly recommend Rex Tolton’s Miles Bay Camp for its friendly atmosphere, welcoming owners, fun fishing and constant improvements (including a new cabin just built this year).

“It was 1979 and I was 13 years old and my dad was finally taking me on my first trip to Canada with my older brother, uncles, and cousins. I was going to a place called Rex Tolton’s Miles Bay camp. I was so excited (I still can’t put it into words) and later realized I was driving my old man crazy.
We were picked up at the dock by 2 boats. First boat was piloted by Larry Tolton who was the owner of the camp (with his wife Sarah). Second boat was piloted by this skinny little kid (who was younger than me) that was standing on a box so he could see over the front of the boat and his name was Matt (who is the current owner of the camp with Jenn). That was 31 years ago and I go back every year.
The same excitement and feeling comes over me now as it did when I was 13 years old when I go to Miles Bay Camp.
Dollar for dollar the most affordable place to fish and have a relaxing vacation with family and friends. They have boats, bait, well maintained cabins, and a clean camp that is located in the heart of Miles Bay that has some of the best fishing in Lake of the Woods. If you fish for Walleye, Muskies, Northern, Bass, Crappie, take one fishing trip a year or 10 you are going to enjoy your stay with Matt and Jenn.

“As I reflect on my fishing outings over this past year, without a doubt Miles Bay Camp was the best week of fishing of the 4 weeks I spent in Canada in 2010. I was amazed that the walleyes and jumbo perch were biting even though we had a mayfly (aka fishflies) hatch on. We even had some action on some big muskies, bass and pike as well. Miles Bay never ceases to put out some form of fishing action over the years I have spent my vacations there. If the walleyes aren’t biting then it’s the bass or pike, or even the crappies took up the slack. Our group had great time releasing about 10 walleyes over 20 inches and the biggest at 28 inches. One guy had a 4 foot muskie hit at boatside side only to lose that fish after a quick and powerful fight. Well that was a sight to see that fish crush that bucktail. I can’t wait till I can get back and fish another week, maybe in 2011? The camp is great and secluded from the major Lake of the Woods resort areas which I like because we don’t see many boats other than the ones form our resort. As I checked my old fishing licenses I see that I very first time I ever went to Canada was in the early 80s. The place I fished back then was Rex Tolton’s Miles Bay Camp. Back then it was a bit more rustic than now, but the great family that owns it is still there. It’s a place where you rarely saw another boat prior to GPS. But as the years go by, its still a fantastic place to go fishing. I have gone there with my brothers and friends over the years. There hasn’t been a bad trip for me in the many times I went. In Miles Bay, I have caught muskies to 46 inches, all the walleyes & perch I can eat and more, and played with my share of numerous smallies and northern pike. If that isn’t enough, I fished off the docks in camp as there is always fish around there. As you can imagine, I can’t wait to go back. So I’m looking forward to seeing Matt, Jenn, and the kids in 2010.

Hi Jenn, Matt, Sadie & Rex.... When I first came to your camp Matt was perhaps the age of Sadie and we watched him grow, walking along the docks with his life jacket fishing and getting into trouble. Not much has changed except now he is helping us with our motor problems, telling us where to fish, etc, etc. Also nothing new because that is what his grandpa, Mom & Dad did for so many years. I feel very fortunate to have spent so many years with all of you. I believe my first year was the fall of 1978 when my cohorts Bump, & Don came and It was so cold our lines would freeze up. Since then we have not missed a year coming to our very favorite fishing hole. Now it is two or three times a year. We have never been dissappointed with your great hospitality, and we appreciate all the improvements you have made to the camp. Fishing seems to continue to get better each year especially bigger fish.Even when the weather does'nt want to cooperate there are many Islands close to camp to fish out of the wind. One nice thing is we usually catch a variety of fish. Walleye, Northern,Small Mouth Bass, Crappie, Muskie (sometimes when least expected). We look forward to many more years with your family and the many friends we have made while staying at your camp. Keep up the good work. I Look forward to seeing you next Spring.

Thanks for the great vacation at Miles Bay Camp. You're remote location is right in the middle of the best fishing on Lake of the Woods for walleye, muskie, crappie and other species. Matt showed us a few spots on the map to try and they were outstanding. Not to mention the muskies and walleyes we caught right off the dock.

Clean, comfortable cabins with beautiful views, sheltered docks, and friendly atmosphere around camp make it the perfect place to stay. All this at an affordable price.

Miles Bay Camp is a very well operated, family run camp. You will have to look hard and long to find any camps that are more family orientated or have better fishing and accommodations. Jenn and Matt work very hard to see that all their guests are having a great time and catching fish. My Wife Cathy and I took our wedding trip to this camp back in 1984 and have been back many times since. My 10 year old son went with me for the first time in 2009 and he is looking forward to going again. I am looking forward to my 40th consecutive year of vacationing at Rex Tolton’s Miles Bay Camp in June of 2010. We started coming in 1970 and have returned every year and sometimes twice a year. Matt and Jenn are the third generation of owners that we have had the privilege of meeting and my grandkids are the third generation of our family to visit the Toltons. I don’t know about making it to 50 years but do know that fishing with the Toltons over all these years has been a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone and my last trip fishing in Canada will be at Miles Bay Camp. During the past 30 + years I've returned to enjoy Miles Bay Camp with my family & friends. On occasion we have had 25-30 people in our group.
Third generation owners, Matt & Jenn have somehow improved a place I had always thought was perfect.
You can travel further & spend more but you won't match the overall experience of spending time with the Toltons.

I have been staying at Miles Bay Camp for over thirty years and can recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway with excellent fishing. My first encounter with the camp came about in the mid 1970’s when I stopped in to see what the camp was like and Agnes gave us a tour of the facilities. We had been camping on various islands around the lake for 4-5 years and decided that Miles Bay Camp was just what we needed. To this day, some 30+ years later and with three generations of owner/operators we have never been disappointed. As a guest you will be treated as a part of the family as long as you do not feed the dogs (Trigger and Cinder) or smuggle in an electric coffee pot or toaster. I get along just fine with the percolator and stove top toaster but when it comes to the dogs I have a soft spot for those pleading eyes, I just have to keep an eye out for Matt :o) The location in Miles Bay is perfect. Those that like to fish close by the camp will find excellent Walleye, Crappie, Northern, Muskie and Small mouth fishing within a mile. My sons and I prefer to wander as far as fifteen miles to explore new areas and have done very well, although those that hang close to the camp do just as well. In addition the wildlife is abundant we have seen Eagles, Black Bear, Deer, Moose, Pileated Woodpeckers and Otters. Be sure to bring your camera. In short you will not find a more economical or pleasant facility to stay at than Tolton’s Miles Bay Camp. Steve Commaford Coon Rapids, Minnesota
